Great story, that does have some truth... The town of Portlock, AK is a ghost town due to all the citizens moving away. The story is that they moved, due to being scared by sasquatch. Ghost Towns -- Portlock, AKI wonder if Robert Alley has heard of this, or has some information on it. I will have to go through his book again specifically looking for this. Aloha, Jason

There was mention of something similar to this is Raincoast Sasquatch.
I am not sure if it was Portlock, AK or another community though.

It was Thomas Bay(?) I have that book called "The Strangest Stories Ever told" by Harry Colp. The original village was wiped out by a landslide. Propectors went there and had much trouble with those "hairy devils).

I found a Norwegian family that moved out of Portlock, and Alaska altogether in 1950 and relocated to another state. I have located the family -- and am trying to make contact with them. Hopefully, they can shed light on what happened up there.
Aloha,
Jason

The community itself was just a small cannery village, The story goes that some of the men in the village were killed and torn apart by some unknown creature? whether that is true or they had a grizzly problem I guess we will never know. I due know that most of the abandon buildings were wiped out by Tidal waves from the 1964 earth quake.

Greetings- I am leading an Expedition Team to Port Chatham (Portlock) Alaska this coming June 2018. I was told about the place just last month when we returned from a Bigfoot Expedition up on Northern Vancouver Island. Must say that I am quite fascinated by what I have learned so far about the history of Port Chatham! We are very excited to get up there next June. If anyone has an current information regarding sightings of the "Hairy Man" in Port Chatham, or any other information relating to the place I would sure appreciate it. Most of the info I have found in my research thus far is pretty dated. However, since we have made it known that we are heading up there next June, a few people have contacted me that had visited the place on hunting trips back in the late 60's and 70's. What they had told me is that the rumors about the place are true, that they did not stay long in the area because of being stalked by the "Hairy Man". I would appreciate any more recent information that someone might have. Thank You!
