Ostman's story produces not a single landmark to latch onto. He claims to have been able to see a mountain..Baker, I believe. But people who know the area around Toba Inlet say that Mt. Baker is not visible from there. Yet it is from another inlet. So the entire area and story is in question. There are no dates, times, or names forthcoming...not of the indian guide who dropped him off..nor, of the Lumber Company or any of the loggers who revived him after his claimed ordeal. So there is very little to say the events even occurred.

yeah its interesting no land marks other then vague references ect.
Another one that would be interesting to look at with google earth would be the Strangest story ever told. By Colp. there is clear landmarks in it. Also a lost mine in the story. wow. Gold and Sasquatches.

Well according to his account the loggers trucked him a distance to a beach on Sechelt Inlet. And he says he was about 50 miles northeast of Toba Inlet head where the sasquatches were, in a high mountain valley that had a narrow v-shaped exit to the southeast, then the valley turned sharply west. He then headed southwards and went down first, level, then up another range and from the top could see Mt. Baker. All these things are checkable on Google Earth, for possibly the first time since the 20's. I'll see what I can find.

It would really help to have a map of logging roads coming off Sechelt inlet in the 1920's.

Well according to his account the loggers trucked him a distance to a beach on Sechelt Inlet. . Strange! In his interview with John Green he does not mention that. All he had to say about his salvation after finding the logging camp was... "The following day I went down from this camp on Salmon Arm Branch of Sechelt Inlet. From there I got the Union Boat back to Vancouver." Again not one shred of verifiable evidence. There is no proof that he was indeed ever in Toba Inlet. But a good yarn none the less.

Yes, a good yarn, and since he does say he didn't think the sasquatches lived there permanently what is the point of looking for it...other than trying to verify it? But if it happened somewhere in the mountains between the head of Toba Inlet and the head of Sechelt Inlet would be the logical place. The Colp story is much easier to locate, I'm sure it would have been here if it happened, and as you can see this whole penninsular area easily can become cut off by glaciers, sea and cliffs, making a starving population of sasquatches not so hard to believe:

from the BFRO Ostman sighting account:
"..and started downhill, looking back over my shoulder every so often to see if they were coming. I was in a canyon, and good travelling and I made fast time. Must have made three miles in some world record time. I came to a turn in the canyon and I had the sun on my left, that meant I was going south and the canyon turned west. I decided to climb the ridge ahead of me. I knew I must have two mountain ridges between me and salt water and by climbing this ridge I would have a good view of this canyon, so I could see if the Sasquatch were coming after me. I had a light pack and was making good time up this hill. I stopped after to look back to where I came from, but nobody followed me. As I came over the ridge I could see Mount Baker. Then I knew I was going in the right direction...I did not dare to make a fire. I rested here for two hours. It was 3:00 p.m. when I started down the mountain side. It was nice going, not too steep, and not too much underbrush... I made it down to the creek at the bottom of this canyon. I felt I was safe now. I made a fire between two big boulders...I started up the mountainside but had no energy.... I had to rest every hundred feet. I finally made the top, but it took me six hours to get there. It was cloudy... I knew I had to go down hill. After about two hours I got down to the heavy timber and sat down to rest. I could hear a motor running hard at times, then stop. I listened to this for a while and decided the sound was a gas donkey. Someone was logging in the neighborhood. I made for this sound, for if only I can get to that donkey, I will be safe. After a while I hear someone holler “Timber” and a tree go down. Now I knew I was safe...
HERE IT IS: Pete came over and looked at me and said this man is sick. We had better help him down to the landing, put him on a logging truck and send him down to the beach...They were very helpful and they talked to the truck driver to give me a ride down to the beach. Pete helped me up into the truck cab, and said the First Aid man will fix you up at the camp...
The following day I went down from this camp on the Salmon Arm Branch of Sechelt Inlet. From there I got the Union Boat back to Vancouver."
