Bigfoothunter I have all due respect for Dr. Jeff Meldrum (Heck, I'm a big fan) but he is not a specialist in eyes, his level of expertise in eyes in particular is probably about equal to mine. As you can see in the link below, his speciality is the locomotion of primates. That's what got him into this field, in which footprints are so important. I've never seen him write about eyes, and if you know of one, please direct me to it as I'd be fascinated to know what he thinks about it all. Meldrum is an expert in the evolution of man and who is someone who instructed me on whether man has ever had nocturnal vision capabilities.

I have never heard bigfoothunter say he was an expert on anything! No one has ever heard me say that I was an expert on the Sasquatch ... not even Chrissie.
I am going to make this reply and I don't care to say anything else about her prior remarks.
The fact that she asserted that I have alluded to or represented myself as being an expert on the Sasquatch shows that she is capable of making things up as she goes for what ever biases she harbors at the moment. I have told everyone who has spoken to me on this subject that there are no experts on the Sasquatch. When people have referred to me as being an expert on this subject, I have quickly set the record straight and will continue to do so each time it comes up.
It is true that I am outspoken when it comes to arm-chair Sasquatch hunters who do little more than speculate about this animal ... I make no secret about it. However, up until the last minutes that Chrissie was ever part of any search into the bush with myself either alone or in the company of others, she also found those criticisms to be justifiable and humorous because of the reality of the points that were made. At times those shots I made were even taken at myself, as well. I will continue to post my observations and thoughts regardless of who they are directed at. It's nothing personal about the person from my end ... just the methods they use and I don't let others disagreements with my own opinions stop me from helping them if I can.
People that know me or have gone into the bush with me will know that I am consistent and I do not cotton to hypocrites, which brings me to close with this reminder ... In the last hours that Chrissie was in my presence ... she asked that I consider letting her help me on a book project, to consider letting her go into business with me running tours and expeditions, inviting me for extended periods in the bush with her so to hunt the Sasquatch, to consider my coming to her property in Greenwood and checking out the area where Chrissie believed she had heard strange sounds, and etc., etc.. So it seems that these things she mentioned that caused her to post as she did only came about after I remarked that she could not unnecessarily get me to into the bush again with her without putting safety first. I know of no one but her who thinks that its OK to risk harm to one's self and others by going into a baited area at night where both bears and cougars are known to be. It was on that note that she ended the two to three day plans to continue on searching the Harrison Lake area with me, which she suggested in the first place. Post what she wishes, but her actions have said differently than the words in her slanderous remarks.
Since my recommendation that she find someone else to work with that doesn't feel as safety conscious as I, we have not had contact, nor have I called her. I left her with an option to seek me out for advice of the area if she needs to and its been left at that. I see no need to discuss this matter again because like I said ... the last hour of the last day ... my position over safety was not and is not open for debate.

Two blind cryptozoologists are invited to investigate a mysterious creature which has been captured. As they reach the examination table one reaches out his hand and feels a hard bill. Reaching down he encounters webbed feet. He says to the hunter"Is this creature aquatic?" The hunter says "Yes!" "Then it is an easy presumption that this creature's ancestors were water fowl!" The second blind crytpo walks up to the table and feels the tail of the creature. "This is flat and webbed and quite firm!" Continuing he feels the creature's back! "It seems to have a fine pelt as well as webbed feet. Obviously its ancestors were from the beaver family!" "Lets speculate here!"says crypto one,"Does this creature swim on the surface?" "No."replied the hunter," It usually swims under the surface! "But it does swim?" repeats crypto one. Yes!" admitted the hunter. "There you have it. If it can swim, then it can also float on the surface. It is a descendant of water fowl. The evidence supports it!" Crypto number two asks" Does the creature build wooden dams on or near water?" "No."replies the hunter."I have never seen it do such! "You say no! But that is only to your knowledge! But you no doubt have seen its handiwork. Bent and broken trees near water courses. Deadfall floating in streams and rivers?" "Yes. I have seen those things."admitted the hunter "There you have it! This creature from its appearance and traits is from the beaver family! And so the two camps of opinion are built each seeking out evidence to support their camp's stance. Speculation built upon erroneous evidence makes for poor facts, but it grown and grows. People seek this creature to study it! The duck camp search the surface of rivers and streams where other waterfowl are found. They look for the creatures eggs in the reed...or even nests! The beaver camp looks through the forests near bodies of water for bent or broken trees which could be used to make dams and rejoice whenever they find such evidence! Some people wondered why the idea had never been brought up that the creature might not be related to either ducks or beavers? And there was a small movement in that direction. But they usually found their efforts to get clean evidence stymied by either one camp or another. And for many decades things plodded along really getting no where! You see. People were afraid to admit that their teachers were wrong in their suppositions about this beast. It is very difficult to recreate an unheard of creature in one's mind. Therefor, association with another living creature makes for a good short cut! Of course hindsight is easy. I am sure that most of you figured out what this unknown creature was just from a brief description. Since the creature was first found we have learned an immense amount of information about it and its way of life. But only in the past hundred years or so. Before that it was just as mysterious as sasquatch. And misinformation and false leads have lead us away from where we should be. I am not now...nor have I ever...said to throw away evidence...although I cannot count the times that such was said about me. But rather, do not get wrapped up in dubious methods which produce no concrete results. Or entertain lines of thought which have never panned out in the past. Why? Because I do not think that there is going to be any shortcuts here! I think that it is better to form no opinion about this creature then to waste your time following the mis-leading, or erroneous!

^ good points, especially the one about forming opinion based on 'associations' with other living creatures.

Well, Gerry, I don't see us doing any particular type of research - - I value the opinions and insight of experts in fields that help us to understand anything at all regarding sasquatch - even dermal ridges can tell us something. In your example, blind or not, any expert would have taken a full look at the body to determine that it was in fact the creature described. It amazes me how little we, on this board, attribute to those folks whove spent years in research and education. ..eg "two blind crypto..." too funny! I do agree that is best to "form" no opinion, as you mentioned - that being said, i think i'd describe it more along the lines of maintaining an open mind. There is nothing erroneous about fixing loose associations to creatures of similar biological backgrounds - in nursing, when we don't "know" a diagnosis, we gather the data and give the best opinion based on what we do know - we eliminate some illnesses, and in the mean time we keep an open mind and continue to gather data. I wonder what we are supposed to be discussing here, if not sharing our thoughts, experiences, and ideas related to sasquatch in a safe, responsible manner. Chrissie p.s. are there any other local forums related to this topic that anybody knows of?

Just because you do not see it does not mean that it is not being done. Then you put value to easily on so called experts. For every expert you come up with, another person can come up with another expert to make an equal counter point. You seem to always miss the point of a post.! First of all you have not been around long enough or did not do dilligent work ain your research, or you would know that very few, if any, casted footprints contain dermal ridges
One would think so. But it has not happened yet in this field. Another point I was trying to make. It amazes me how many do attribute their evidence to the murmerings of so called experts! Again you missed the point of the post! Again you seem to think that the entire post was the work of a closed mind! Maybe in a few years from now when you have been at this long enough you may change your opinion and not be so quick to applaud or condemn. I just gave you a prime example of such dangerous undertakings and yet you don't seem to want to entertain the idea that such a thing is erroneous??
In nursing we all hope that the basis for any diagnosis is not built upon hearsay and speculation, but rather from well documented and evaluated facts, which have been proven again and again over a long period of time! Apples and oranges when it comes to sasquatch research! We can also share our thoughts and ideas in relation to sasquatch and sasquatch research...or lack thereof. As for a "safe" and "responsible" manner...well you have lost me there! None local. But if you ever decide to look at the West coast website, I am sure that you will find a number of links! Here is one for you right now;;; www.bigfootforums.comTell em Grandcherokee sent you! Enjoy! Spend a year or so there and really pay attention to what people say..not what you think they say...then come back with some more knowledge and facts under your belt and we can have a discussion about it all. I am of the opinion that I can decry the stale learning process with which many of us have grown with over the past few decades without being chastised by someone who is still a little star struck by all of the names associated with this field. You have such great promise. When your research equals your drive to get out there and get something done...then you will be a very good source for people to connect with! Go do research..talk to many people..that link I gave you is a good place to start! Then one day...come back and we will talk about West Coast Sasquatch! Good luck!

You know! I do not like the turn this board is taking lately! When you start talking about the researchers instead of the research...it is time to rethink things. I won't close this thread because it is probably the most important one presently on the site! Bigfoothunter! Quite signaling out individuals on this board and getting a shot in at them. Your input is too valueable for it to just be poking at a person.
Chrissie! Get some experience under your belt! Don't talk about other people's exploits or opinions..learn enough to have your own! Speak from your own sasquatch experiences...whether good or bad..as I speak from mine!
Maybe some time spent on another board will give you a healthier prospective!
Next time anyone steps out of line on a personal level..then they might find themselves facing a suspension for a week, or two.
Lets get on with it!

Well, Gerry, I found a way better forum to discuss issues and research so will not be participating in this forum any longer. And, it's local! Good luck with the babysitting Chrissie

LOL Gerry, about the platypus! And the fact of the matter is that in reality the dried carcasses sat in museums for years, ignored and considered a hoax, until somebody with the right scientific clout and connections went down south and actually saw the things alive. There are lots of parallels to the Sasquatch phenomenon.

There are lots of parallels to the Sasquatch phenomenon. I agree! Here is a creature which appears to be a beaver, an otter, and a duck....but in reality is neither. Those old lines of thought did not work..so maybe it needs to be looked at in a much different way. This was what I meant by critical thinking! Or even what some might call 'oputside of the box'.....but I always reserved that for new stuff. Critical thinking ito me is taking a new look at what you already have!

Saquach/ Big foot, is a myth which has been created by the world in an attempt to explain what there is no explaination for. From all of the information, which I've read about Big Foot sightings as well as supposeded evidence I have reviewed-it is scientifically impossible for what has been described as a Big foot to exsist in North America and Canada. From descriptions given as well as renderings of supposed Big foot features and physical appreance by supposed witnesses, whom would lead the populus to believe that a Neanderthal,Cromagnon; Austrolopithecus-Afarensis; Homo-habilis-Homo-Erectus hybrid many of which became exstinct over a million plus years ago are still supposedly alive and living in the mountains of North America and Canada undetected is nothing more than a fairy story at best and not possible.
First, Neanderthal lived in the region known as Germany today over a million years ago and often inhabited the Ural Mountain ranges of Euroupe. Second, Austrolopithicus-Afranesis lived within the region of africa which runs through the Adulvi Gorge within an arid, hot climate-this species of upright ape like man also became exstinct over a million years ago.Homo-Habilis-Homo-Erectus was also lived in Tazania Africa over a million years ago as well. Third, all of these species of paleo man where very social and lived in groups, many had extensive language skills and possessed both social as well as cultural norms within their groups and other groups which each species encountered. Many of these paleo human groups only reached a three and a half to four foot height ratio, but only Neanderthal possessed a thick skeletal structure covered by a tough stocky musco-skeletal frame and also only stood three to three and a half feet tall.
Many of these groups of paleo peoples developed and possessed advanced language skills. Neanderthals made their round houses from the bones and skins of Woolly Mamoths while Cromagnon made their homes from temporary shelters similar to paleo woodland indian long houses as well as living in caves temporarily. Austrolopithicus-Afranesis lived in thatched grass huts much like their african descendants do to day.
The only explanation which could possibly explain all of these supposed Big Foot sighting is a migratory American Grizzly Bear or a migratory Alaskan small brown bear. It is more likely that the sightings are of a north american migratory grizzly bear or grizzly bears.
Many of the sounds being heard which are claimed to be the unexplained screams of a big foot are more than likely night calls of such animals as: owls, elk, wolves and coyotes distorted from a distance as well as the return distorted echo of the people making big foot calls. I used to live in Washington State, I have visited the Cascade Mountains and drove up through these mountains on a deserted wooded highway.
Never once when I visited the Cascade Mountains did anyone ever bring up the subject of Big Foot, nor did any thing resembling a big foot run in front of my car-no big foots where ever spotted by myself as I drove through the Cascade Mountains in the State of Washington. The only big creature in the Cascade Mountains are black bears and brown bears. ;D

Dr. Jeff Meldrum, do you have a suggested reading list for this one? As an extremely busy individual who has an extremely busy life and whom has mitriculated into a post-secondary academic setting of higher learning. I'm overburdened with course work as it is-but I thank you for suggesting a reading list to me. ;D
