Hello all. I'm a closet BF afficianado going back to my childhood. Live in Edmonton, Ab and have travelled through much of the Rocky Mountains in my life. I've often wondered with the advent of all the high tech equipment available now if a unique type of approach could be utilized to narrow down the needle in the haystack of BF hunting.
My idea would be to instead of having us humans always "pushing bush" in search of BF, why not use the creature's own curious nature against it in a passive method. Create an all in one cone shaped probe that one would chopper into a BF hotspot and let it draw the attention of BF w/o any human presence. My idea would have the top third portion of the probe to house two 180 degree panaview cameras and two night vision units along with a high density motion sensor to turn on the sensors. The middle section would intenally house power cells, digital hard drives, and have the outer layer housing solar panels to enable a charge to the power cells to make the unit self supporting for a few weeks at a time. The bottom portion would be heavily weighted to prevent the probe from being tipped over. Now you would have a 24-7 BF hunter.
I got the idea after reading several reports going back decades at the creature's inquisitive nature upon man's intrusion into it's territory. However, we are always at a disadvantage due to our scent and the relative degree of fear and or cautiosness exhibited when we are walking thru the woods.
This way we could drop something new into BF's territory and let the creature come to it. One could even install a phermone or scent release device to attract any BF who would be extremely curios as to what this new object is that might smell like food.
Now obviously there would be costs involved but I would think that BF researchers could propose a device like this to a variety of universities who could use it for other research of large animals. Plus the ability to move it to different locations makes it a usefull tool.
Thoughts?
