Strange things in Chehalis area

I was hoping maybe someone here may have some insight into some rather strange things that myself and a fishing friend have witnessed while fishing remote areas of Chehalis canyon.

First off both of us have had rocks , were talking large round boulders come from high above the canyon and land right into the middle of a pool we were fishing.
My event happened while guiding in the canyon last summer. Myself and a client had arrived at a remote pool, after a long hike down into the canyon. While hiking in I had been telling the client some tales of local Sasquatch sightings and stuff as a topic of interest as I am interested in the subject. My client had a good chuckle and being from Colorado, was no stranger to the topic as well.
We arrived at the pool and began to fish, after 5 minutes I heard a cracking sound from above and looked up to see a large round boulder the size of a beach ball come falling down from above. It landed a good portion of the way on to our side of the river and was not followed by any small rocks or sticks what so ever.
I found this strange, as I would first off expect a bunch of rocks and debris to fall if it were a slide or such and also the rock I would expect to be jagged, not a smooth round one as it were.
Also I wondered aloud why the rock was not rolling down the cliff, but was more catapaulted out , to land more toward us.

Myself and the client, decide to leave this spot as any fish would certainly be spooked by this action, and we both were rather perplexed by the event and spoke little on the walk up.

This same thing has happened twice to a friend of mine who also fishes here and I had not really thought much about his reports to me of these events until my encounter. Strange yes, but certainly not a unexplained phenomena, makes you wonder though.

Another thing my buddy has encountered in the canyon is the sound of voices, but not loud enough to hear words , sort of a mumbling voive type sound. Funniest part of this is he tries to follow or get closer to the sounds but they remain at a constant distance and always seem to be on the move with him.
This happened a number of times I believe and he really was not spooked by this but thought it was strange none the less.

Wondering if this is something that perhaps could be a precursor of sightings or audio encounters or just some strange stuff from a rather spooky area.

I know many other anglers who do not enjoy going into the canyon, some who will not go back and others who much prefer company.

I am in their alone quite a bit and feel quite safe and at ease, more worried about bumping into a bear with cubs or a starving cougar.

Any other stuff from this area would be great to hear about, certainly no shortage of history to this area as far as the Sasquatch is concerned.

Very interesting.
Although there are other explanations for rocks rolling down hills and bouncing, there is a family group active in that general area. The unintelligible voices have been reported from other suspected sasquatch activities including some siting I think. Some sasquatches, especially juveniles ( I know of smaller tracks found twice) have been reported to be quite mischiveous.
Is there any pattern in the time of year these events occured?
Approximately where on the Chehalis?

Welcome to the WCSR forum.

Although I have never personally experienced anything I would consider to be sasquatch related while fishing the lower portions of Chehalis River, I have never fished or ventured into the upper reaches (and more dangerous) canyon sections.

I have, however, had several reports from steelhead and coho anglers over the years that sound nearly identical to what you have experienced while fishing the Chehalis River canyon. In fact, a few years back several anglers posted some strange happenings from the Chehalis canyon—as well as Morris Slough—and had a very good discussion going on my old www.ufishbc.com board.

Besides the constantly moving mumbling-type voices being heard and rocks being thrown from above, several anglers have also reported that they were followed by something or someone just out of sight in the forest. Many anglers also reported hearing large branches being broken, and a few people have said they heard rocks being clacked or banged together but could see nothing responsible for making the sounds.

I also received a very credible report of a upper Chehalis canyon sasquatch sighting (a tall, brown colored creature walking upright that was seen slinking from tree to tree) from a trusted local fishing guide that I have known for years.

If or when you head back into the Chehalis River canyon to wet a line, please keep an eye out for possible sasquatch tracks or an ear open for anything you'd consider out of the ordinary and keep us posted.

I don't see a date, when did this happen? I recently received a report from two local boys here in Mission that they had rocks from above thrown into the water while they were fishing? (Steenburg File# 10154). This happened Febuary 13th, 2007.
This kind of thing has been reported in this area since the beginning. (Old Charley story recorded by J.W.Burns). One has to conclude that ether a sasquatch is responsible or some of the Locals have an odd way of amusing them selves?

Hey Ken, those reports on the old site may have been from myself and my fishing buddy, who I actually started fishing with after chatting with him on your old site.
I really liked your old site. Is this your site?.

I am in Chehalis canyon all the time, guiding, fishing and doing broodstock work. I always stay alert to my surroundings and hopefully through this site I can know what small things to keep an eye out for.
We float the river in specialized boats and access some sections seldom seen by anyone else. Of the many sandy beaches we find in these sections, only prints I ever find are from small water mammals and people. It would seem not many animals make it down to the river.
Thomas, all this stuff is the last 4 years, with my rock incident being last summer.
I'll have to read some of the old stuff about this area. I am aware of some of the stories from the local FN people, but I'm sure theres much I have not read.
Activity from logging, mining tests and increased summer recreation, would surely limit any strange activity to this area. I seldom see wildlife in this area other than birds and the odd small water mammal.
As for the rock incident, I am certain that no one could have accessed the other side of the river without huge risk and massive effort, I know as I have tried exploring from that side and it is a nitemare. On top of this the rock in question was beyond a humans capacity to lift and if a slide were responsible than surely there would have been other debris. I suppose someone could have teed up a rock to be released from a location above that would make it shoot out into mid river. But they would have to make the massive hike into that location and wait for an angler/s to arrive. In the summer this spot is fished probably one day a week, maximum.
All these factors played into my feelings on this incident , had it have been on almost any other local river, a prank may have been believable, but not here and definately not in this location.

Great to read your excellent reply, and to hear that you're still enjoying the salmon and steelhead fishing on the Fraser Valley's rivers.

Believe it or not, I have heard from four anglers in the past two weeks that wondered what ever became of me and my old fishing site. Although I still try and get out fishing when the window of opportunity presents itself, I thoroughly enjoy the broad field of cryptozology and researching sasquatch around BC. West Coast Sasquatch Research and this forum belong to Gerry M. Myself, Sebastian and Thomas contribute to the site the best we can.

Certainly sounds like some of those reports that contained the mention of possible sasquatch-related activity in the Chehalis River canyon that were posted on my old ufishbc board may well have been yours.

As far as looking for and finding possible sasquatch tracks, I have found through some of my research that one might have a little more luck looking in areas where you wouldn't normally expect to find any type of footprints or an animal or human to travel without great difficulty. In other words, keep an eye open for possible sasquatch tracks off the beaten trails where the thicker forest would provide good amounts of cover and all-important safety.

Please keep us all posted here should you come across anything up in the Chehalis River country (or anywhere else, for that matter) that you think might be sasquatch related.

Interesting stuff here..makes one go Hmmm...mainly for the fact that bentrod was in no hurry to ascribe the falling rock to sasquatch presence. I like that objectivity in a person as do we all who post here!

I am heading up to camp along Chehalis Lake in a couple of weeks. All of these rock-throwing incidents are very curious. Rock throwing is, unfortunately, one of the favourite activities of hoaxers, so if any rocks come down, I will be up and after the culprit. My girlfriend and I are fact-based Sasquatch researchers, and have had some success already. We will be sure to investigate the hills above before we start fishing. Footprints are not likely as the forest is probably quite dry now, so we will be looking for scat, hair samples, and snapped off branches. I tend to agree with Rene Dahinden, who felt that the best way to spot a Sasquatch is with long-range binoculars, so I will be using a spotting scope, as well as binoculars, and my girlfriend will have the camera ready. All of these accounts are very helpful. Thanks to everyone who posted.

Thx for the follow up post. I have an adapter ring for my spotting scope that allows me to thread my camera on to the back. I get twice the magnification with this and take pics or record video.
