Noone was with in 10 mile of me...I dont know what to make of it but the wood knocking was very wierd... what animal would do that at 2 in the morning...What animal is capable of intermintint loud knocking of wood together...I look forward to my next hike to find or listen to more of this emomially...Thank you all..any questions , tylerduquette@hormail.com

hey... I'm so envious of your experience! there is a thread on here dealing with that particular area. I think it starts with the phrase "ever hear of giant black salamanders..." Anyway, it includes maps and some history concerning reports of cryptid "alligators" or salamanders in or around that particular lake, and an old mention of sasquatch-like creatures as well. I've been planning an overnight trip there for awhile with enough gear to try and trap the salamander if it does in fact inhabit the lake. I went as far as lindeman lake last year on a day hike and it's obvious anything could be well hidden there, with the terrain. In fact I just flew over the area on tuesday and anyone who uses the argument that creatures couldn't exist undetected pretty much anywhere in this country (or continent for that matter) have been spending too much time walking on the tiny percentage of area that is paved. I'd mark it down to unexplained and maybe next time try knocking back. Then again as most of us know, logic sort of goes out the window when something like this actually happens to you. I still can't explain why I didn't stop the truck during my single sasquatch sighting, as honestly it just didn't occur to me, or why when we discovered footprints my son grabbed a pellet gun instead of a camera! I can totally understand not wanting to knock back and possibly invite a visit from the unknown in the black of night. There is always the chance that some other hiker was responsible, but you'd know better than anyone if that was probable.

I'm planning on doing an overnight in this area some time soon. Will keep my eyes and ears open.

It would be a good idea to keep a recorder handy so you can keep a record of what your hearing.

I may be off here (more than normal) but as a wood knock is just that - two pieces of wood hitting each other - what may have provided the force needed cause the noise cannot possibly be known. Recording it would be just that - a sound of a tree knock - nothing more.
Unless one is several days deep into the woods, where there is really no other person within 20+ miles, then there is no way of saying for sure it wasn't another person, after all if the researcher can head out there so can anyone else.
Also, I have not seen enough evidence to show that indeed wood knocking has anything to do with Bigfoot. It is a curiosity as to what may have caused the knocking sound (as one could hypothesize it would have to be something with a thumb to be able to grasp a log to smash) but one can never discount another person.
Then again if I were in Snelgrove lake and had heard a "tree knock" that responded to my knocking, then I would be more than intrigued. ;-)
