Im originally from just outside Yale BC. In between Yale and hope to be exact. i grew up just off a logging road along side Emery Creek. Lovely area i might add. So as a child, on at least 5 occasions, I heard funny moans and bad smells came from the mountains. If I could discribe the smell, it would a combination of bad shellfish and old prostitute and the sound would be of an old prostitute who just ate some bad shellfish. To be serious though, I dont ever remember being scared of it. Even my dog didnt seem to mind whatever it was. the chickens however REALLY minded. It would go away within a few minutes but the smell would stay for days.. Deep inside, i know that it was bigfoot, but I always though the bigfoot was only south of the Fraser river. how could it get across? Surviving would be no problem in that area. Tons of caves, shallow streams, berries, crawfish etc. And what could possibly bring it within 20km of the Trans canada highway? Just a few things I would like to hear some feedback on. TY mfm

There were BF sightings all along that part of BC. Thomas Steenburg has a report in 1997, someone saw a sasquatch on the other side of the river (Anderson river). It was feeding on leaves.

TY mfm Actually, I always thought that Squatch was mostly north of the river...as that is where the majority of sighting have taken place. Crossing the Fraser is not as daunting as one might believe either. In the summertime along the Agassiz -Chilliwack stretch of the river huge sandbars almost create bridges with narrow channels running in between. So a supposedly strong swimmer (..like Squatch is made out to be..) would have no problem crossing from one side to the other. As for highways? When has that ever stopped them? Most of the reports that people submit from that area has the critter in their headlights.

Heck, even I'd swim across the Fraser River to get some Chilliwack Sweet (corn) this time of year. And apples...plums...pears...hazelnuts...
Anything at all could come right into the heart of Chilliwack along the banks of the shallow Hope Slough after dark, hole up in the tall reeds during the day, and feast at night.

And what could possibly bring it within 20km of the Trans canada highway? Alot of things. Perhaps the creature is heading in that direction, it would need to cross the highway to get there. Some witnesses claim that it looked as if the creature was walking along the shoulder of the highway, perhaps it is just walking the highway because it takes alot less effort than plowing through dense brush. I have a report in my files that was sent in by a hitchhiker, back 1996. He stated that while walking along the edge of the highway he spotted what he thought was another hitchhiker coming the other way. But when he waved at what he thought was the other hitchhiker, it stopped dead, almost beside a highway sign, and then tore off into the woods. He thought this was a little odd and he was concerned about why this person would do something like that. When he got a little closer to the sign, he realized that this "person" would have to have been 8+ feet tall, compared to the height of the sign on the shoulder of the highway. He went on to say that, after passing the spot where this creature had left the road, he could swear that something was keeping pace with him on the other side, just inside of the treeline. He said that this went on for almost 20 minutes, he was then picked up by a trucker, and taken out of the area. Perhaps Sasquatch prefers warm asphalt to the broken detritus and obstacles of the forest, at least on occassion.

Just joined this board. Although I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of south-western Virginia and no Bigfeet are in this area, I am facinated by the subject of a Bigfoot/Sasquatch roaming this continent and have been since I was a little girl in upstate New York.
The big thing around here are cougar sightings. Officially, they "don't exist" any longer/hunted out, but the locals tell a different story (sound familiar? :>) We own 250 acres boarding Jeffereson National Forrest and my husband saw a cougar about 15 yrs ago while hunting deer. Jumped out of a tree from 30 ft up and scared him so badly he left the woods...and he is an avid hunter/outdoorsman! Said it made "all of the hair on his body stand on end." Yet, he had a bear walk within 20 yards of him this hunting season while only armed with a bow and arrow and said it was "cool". That said, it makes PERFECT sense to me why there are not more photographs or video of this amazing creature we call Bigfoot. If a cougar can invoke fear in my husband who seems to fear nothing...imagine the terror running into one of these enormous creatures would have on 99% of those who encounter one at close enough range to take pictures?
I'd love to see a Bigfoot, but would settle for the elusive cougar in my part of the globe for now. LOVE all I've read in here so far. Thoughtful posts...not random and untangleble in any way! I do believe we have a hugh bipedal ape-like creature in America and Canada.
