Don't know if this was a Sasquatch or not but it certainly was a sight I'll never forget. A few friends and I decided to make a duck-hunting trip to Red Lake up in the Kamloops region of British Columbia. We packed up a couple of camouflaged boats, 50 or 60 rubber mallard decoys, grub, guns and headed for the high country. My friend Randy and I decided to hunt a marshy area on Red Lake that we knew well from our eastern brook trout ice fishing trips during the winter. (Note: At the time the closest ranch or building was a good 10 miles away over bush roads.) We had our boat loaded before first light and made for the marsh. Once there we set out our decoys and slipped the boat back into the high weeds and grass about 60 feet from open water. Hunting was slow due to warm weather and little wind. We would blow our mallard calls once in awhile hoping to entice a duck from the far end of the lake but nothing was moving. A few hours had passed and we had not fired a single shot. Myself and Randy were staring out over at our decoys on Red Lake when something suddenly but quietly surfaced just outside our flock of decoys. What came up appeared to us to be a human-type head covered in long, wet hair ... something what a person with long hair would look like if they surfaced while swimming. The skin under the hair as well as the eyes, appeared dark brown in color. Our view of this strange head was about even with the shoulders, although they did not break the surface of the water. The eyes (what you could see of them under the hair) looked dark (no white) like an animal's. The face had no expression or movement. It seemed to look at our decoys and us for maybe 10 or 15 seconds, and then slipped silently under the surface with a slight swirl or wake and it was gone. Nothing else was seen or heard. When we returned to Cliff Tuscon's ranch where we were staying, I asked him aside if he had ever seen anything like what we witnessed on Red Lake that morning. I'll never forget the look he gave me. I think he figured I was either piss-drunk or on the verge of going crazy. In any case, old Cliff never saw anything like what I described in his 40 years up in that country.

In Wyoming, in Summer/Fall 1987. I was working on a woodcutting crew. We had some goofy stuff happen. Noises, breaking branhces just beyond the treeline. I was by myself cutting one day when I believe I heard two "howls" above the sound of the saw. We woke up one morning and foun one of the fellows about 20 feet up a lodgepole pine. He told us a "Moose had chased him up." But when we asked about the moose he couldn't answer about seeing it, etc. Just that "something big" had come through camp.
All "Type B" encounters.
As the years have gone by, and I think back about that job, and working there, a lot of the stuff that went on I did not put together as possibly being related until later on in life.

Hi Jon...and welcome to the West Coast Sasquatch forum. Your possible Sasquatch/Bigfoot encounters from Wyoming sure sound interesting. I'd certainly like to hear about some of the strange happenings in detail some time. I know exactly what you mean about not putting stuff together until years later. Those strange and unexplainable things that happen out in the wilderness often have a nasty habit of snaking their way out of a person's subconscious years after the incident took place. Bushman

Hey guys this is my first post as you can see. Now i think i might have had an encounter with sasquatch but im not sure. I have heard something while i was in the woods in North Idaho that was running through the snow on what sounded like 2 legs. i ran as fast as i could. What kind of stuff might point to this being a Sasquatch?

Welcome to the West Coast Sasquatch Forum, sasquatchfan .
Not too much information to base any assumptions on with your possible Sasquatch encounter.
Some type of evidence (perhaps tracks left in the snow or a quick glimpse of the creature) would help to confirm your suspicions of whatever it was that heard being an actual Sasquatch.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

I didn't have this experience, but my friend did. She was walking on a trail between our homes (they are approx. 1.5 mi apart) that goes through a wooded area. As she rounded a corner, she saw something metal was on the ground. She started toward it, curious to see what it was, when she heard a groan and saw a long black, hairy arm reaching out from behind a large tree on the side of the trail (kind of like the creature was stretching) She didn't stick around to see what the creature was. Another time, last summer, I was talking to her on the telephone and something made the weirdest scream I've ever heard, and she was able to hear it on my end of the line also. We live in Northern Wisconsin, and I'm not sure if these are actual Bigfoot experiences, but they are weird nonetheless!! Lessien

Guys,
This goes back to May of 1961, when I was 14, on our dairy farm in Upstate New York. I was a Boy Scout and spent a lot of time camping out, fishing, hiking. I discovered a small spring in a section of our woods, and one afternoon heard some rustling noise near it. I thought I was going to find a deer drinking out of it. This was a sunny afternoon, with the light filtering through the trees, but considerable shade.
What I found raising above the bush was a large shiny black thing, covered in black hair with yellow reflecting eyes. There were no discernable facial features, but I certainly remember those eyes. It appeared to have a rounded head, no neck and broad shoulders. I couldn't see any arms, just head, and shoulders, but the arms looked like they were coming out the shoulders like a man's, not out in front like a bear's.
Man, I was scared to death, took off running, and cleared a four strand barbed wire fence like it wasn't even there, moving down into pasture, and then home. It didn't follow me.
Naturally I told everybody I had seen a bear. Sasquatches of course I had read about in "True Magazine" but they were in California, or British Columbia. Trouble was my area of Upstate New York had no bears reported frequenting the area for over 60 years.
Still to this day, I have wondered what it exactly was. The eyes reflecting bright yellow really spooked me. Not sure that a bear's eye reflect yellow. They seem to reflect amber, almost an orange. I've noticed several eye witness drawings from Ohio that looked like what I saw. Black figures, no discernable face, reflecting eyes.
If anybody can comment, I'd appecriate it.

Hi Jon,
Certainly sounds like you may have had an encounter with a bigfoot/sasquatch in upstate New York back in May of 1961.
As far as the color of the eyes on the creature you saw goes, I have heard of eye color reported ranging from black to red and everything in between.
Come to think about it, if sasquatch is possibly a distant cousin of man, that may explain the wide variety in eye colors being reported by witnesses across North America.
Hope this helps.

Bushman,
Thanks for the insight. Here it is, over 40 years later and that memory is still vivid as yesterday.
What's interesting is I must have looked at that darned thing for about 30 seconds, and my mind just couldn't sort out what I was looking at. It just stood there swaying back and forth looking back at me.
Then the shock hits you. It's not a bear!
Also of note. There have been several sitings of Sasquatches in that area over the past couple of years. Farming in Upstate New York has been reduced, many dairy farms, general farms out of production and a lot of land now absentee owned, by weekenders, New York City residents, etc. Deer, bear, lynx coyote populations are reportedly up. Could be a few Sasquatches have found it more peaceful than previously!

Hi Jon,
I know exactly what you mean about your memory of the creature you witnessed so long ago still being vivid. If what I saw back in the mid-'70s was indeed a sasquatch in the waters of Red Lake in BC's interior, I can still see the head and partial shoulder area as clear as alpine air.
When a person witnesses something that the mind can't quite grasp, it has a funny way of being etched in your memory for many years.
Good luck in your search for sasquatch in New York state.
Please keep us filled in on anything sasquatch-related you might come across in your travels.

Bushman,
Now this is pretty funny. Where do I end up forty years later? In SW Washington, not a stone's throw from the Yale Reservoir, Merwyn damn, Mt. St. Helens area where there have been many Sasquatch sitings!
One night I am coming down Rte 503, from Cougar to Battleground, Wa and I see this figure in the road ahead. My God! I sure looks like a Big Foot! Dark critter with an awkward stride, hunched over........Man, I slow way down, hit my brights to get a better look and there, blinded by my headlights is this big ol' gal in a hooded sweatshirt, sweat pants and rubber boots with a garbage bag across her shoulder, taking out her trash. As I slowed down she yells at me "what t'hell ya lookin' at?" Well, being a gentleman and a good Christian I didn't have the heart to tell her she looked like a Bigfoot from 200 yards away.
Obviously a case of misidentification............I think.

Hi Jon, That encounter of yours sounded awful terrifying. I think I'd be reasonably safe in saying that you're lucky she wasn't packin' a club or you might not be here chatting it up with living right now. Bushman
