On Wednesday, April 11, 2012, Thomas Steenburg and I headed up to Riverside Recreation Site along Chilliwack Lake Road, to revisit the site of his August 1986 investigation. First, I want to thank Thomas for showing me the spot, and sharing the facts and circumstances of the sighting and his investigation with me. I learned a lot -- and I hope that come through in this short video I posted to YouTube. I have more to post on my blog, but wanted to get this up first... YouTube -- "Sasquatch Sighting At Chilliwack River" Aloha, Jason

Nice work! But do you have a stablized version?

Nice work! But do you have a stablized version? I damn near spit beer on my monitor, I was laughing so hard. We need MK Davis in here. Two things caused that... 1. I was not using a tripod or monopod. I have one on order from Amazon. 2. For whatever reason the 1080p video shot with my Kodak Zi8 was shaky and the 720p/60 frames was smooth. Not sure why. I will get better over time. But people loved Thomas as you can see. He is down to earth, matter-of-fact and a natural in front of the camera like Rene and his Kokanee commercials. Aloha, Jason

Awesome vid, one of my favorite places. Interesting to hear about the encounter--I hadn't heard about it before!

There was another sighting years back at Allison Pool campground. Some youths had gathered for a fire and were doing wolf calls, and something answered back from across Chilliwack River and made a lot of crashing noise. Not sure if there was a visual or not. It scared the heck out of them. ;D
I also saw two wide barefoot footprints in sand at the beach at the south side of Chilliwack Lake in early winter one year, rather far back from the beach. There were also bear tracks and beaver there, but these were distinctly not bear or beaver. I have pictures of one track posted somewhere on this forum. It was about 12 inches long and very wide, it appeared as though one foot of the walker was on the side of the waterway, and the other foot in the water. Sort of a semi-stealth mode, or maybe just playful. The stride was very long, too long for a human.

Um...there are also two stories from Cultus Lake. One from years back is the disappearance of a honeymooning couple from their cabin. The food was left on their plates, and there were large barefoot footprints all around the cabin. I think John Green would know more about that one, as it was one of Ken Kristiansen's I believe.
Also there was a sighting of a sasquatch near a dumpster by some vacationers at Cultus Lake, who reported it to a park official. He smiled, and said, "You saw a bear." Of course they denied it, so he said, "A two legged bear." or something like that. John might know about that one as well. I'm not sure where I found that one. It hints that some of the early park personnel were aware of a sasquatch presence in the park. I've been in and around the area for years and the most I've encountered is a very foul odour just before the fish hatchery. So that is another area to explore and research!

There's one old one at Cultus Lake listed at this web site as well: www.bigfootencounters.com/sbs/older_BC.htmHere's another: "The latest report that has come in is about a sighting of four Sasquatch seen together in the Cultus Lake/Chilliwack area. The few details that I have at this time are from a man who says he was hiking with a friend up a mountain side. When they reached a flat field-like area near the top they saw 2 large Sasquatch and 2 smaller ones. They seemed to be picking the wild strawberries in the field. Their hike up the mountain took them two and a half hours but they made it down in fifteen minutes of panic." from Robin Nowatchka, www.ufobc.ca/Supernatural/Bigfoot/nowatschka.htm

Thank you for posting those stories and links! It means a lot when someone goes through the trouble to look up the links and offer them up. I have soooo much reading to do now. Aloha, Jason

;D There is also a sighting south of the border, if you look at Cultus lake on Google Earth, it rests north of Columbia valley which is continuous with Peaceful Valley in the US. Just to the East of there is Silver Lake. There is a boy scout camp on the north side of Silver Lake and there was an incident there of something throwing stones at boys some time back. That was mentioned on the BFF, so got it from the horse' mouth. The boys were doing archery, and something started throwing stones back at them. The freaked and got away, and told an adult. It was never properly investigated.

Hmmm I also remember a sighting from the BFRO, a young boy was sleeping in a field up in Ryder Lake area (above Promontory), camping in his or family property, and awoke to see a sasquatch looking down at him. LOL Imagine!
Last year in the paper there was an account of a male cougar shot up there for killing a dozen sheep. I wouldn't sleep in a field up there these days! LOL
