3000 tracks found or a big tale???

The Mysterious 3000 track find:

I stumbled across this old set of papers titled "Peter and the Sasquatch" and started to reading them. The information inside was about Peter Byrne, which I knew of but had never met, and how he apparently has said things concerning his evidence finds that seemed contradictory and down right dishonest. While not knowing the author of this investigation done many years ago, I attempted to read it with an open mind.

One of the things that caught my eye was the claim that Peter Byrne had found 3000 Sasquatch tracks. I immediately wondered why I had never heard this before. I read over things Byrne had said in support of himself when attempting to gain financial support for some of his past projects, but I started wondering why such an alleged trackway of 3000 Bigfoot prints was not being mentioned, but once in a news leter that Byrne used to put out?

I then contacted Thomas Steenburg and asked him about this alleged claim that Byrne made and Thomas seemed as puzzled about it as I for he has met and spoken with Peter Byrne on occasions and says that Peter had never talked about them with him. I asked that Thomas see what he could find out about them and after he made contact with Byrne by email .... we seemed to have not learned a thing more.

Steenburg asked Byrne the following questions, "I was going over a binder of your old news letters ' Bigfoot news' and I noticed a track photo in the May issue No#8 1975. You mention a find of 3000 footprints on a mountain rd somewhere in the Cascades. I was wondering as to the details of this finding and whether or not any more of the tracks were photographed and cast?"

In Byrne's reply to Steenburg, Peter had said about the 3000 track find, "DEAR TOM...THEY MAY HAVE BEEN BUT I DON'T RECALL. AGAIN, A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF MY RECORDS (OF THIS AND OTHER DATA ) DISAPPEARED DURING THE TAKE OVER AT THE END OF MY NINTIES PROJECT."

I thought "Disappeared in the later nineties"!!! This sounded like the old adage - 'The dog ate my homework' excuse. So in other words ... Byrne had this stuff for over three decades and needs to refresh his memory by reviewing old records before being able to talk about them to Steenburg. Who in the world could forget the details around finding 3000 Bigfoot tracks and who wouldn't have had photo and film copies of them so to never lose them to anyone?? It's like Bob Gimlin saying that he'd have to review the Patterson film before being able to refresh his memory as to what the creature looked like and the circumstances to having that encounter. It was along here where I started losing faith that Peter Byrne was being straight up about this alleged track find. It seemed to me that such a large find (the largest on record in the Bigfoot/Sasquatch field to date) would be as big to someone who witnessed it as anyone who was standing along Elm Street in Dealey Plaza when JFK was shot while not being able to remember much it without reviewing their files. Maybe it's me... but something didn't sound right.

The push for information continues:
I knew that Byrne was going to Larry Lund's place for a week visit, so Steenburg asked Larry what he knew about the 3000 tracks. Larry and Peter go back a long way, so certainly Larry would know about the 3000 Bigfoot track find - right??? Well Larry didn't seem to know anything about these tracks and Thomas got Larry to agree to inquire about them to Peter during his visit there. After the week long visit was over, Thomas emailed Lund for the details and Lund replied by talking about everything but the trackway find. One response focused solely on some guy winning a large amount of money and suddenly being able to find this beautiful 'love of his life' girlfriend to help him spend it, but nothing about the 3000 tracks which was the point of the email in the first place. I seem to recall That Thomas emailed Larry again about this 3000 print trackway and again Lund still didn't give up any information pertaining to this incredible alleged find of Byrne's. I was now finding myself even more perplexed and having grave doubts that there ever was a 3000 track find by Peter Byrne.

I am going to post the documents I read pertaining to this past investigation into Byrne's past concerning this track find and other Sasquatch related dealings. The more I read - the more I was understanding why the unexplained loss of memory on Peter's part to give out information to Thomas pertaining to them ... and also why Lund was not being responsive to Steenburg's questions. In reading this material, I couldn't help but notice that the location of this find didn't seem to match up with other accounting's of it elsewhere. I also saw the same photo being used, but reversed, and several various sizes attributed to it by Peter Byrne. In one instance it was said that Byrne had taken the photo and elsewhere that someone else had taken the picture. I share this with others so to see what they may be able to add to this mystery of the 3000 trackway find.

Does anyone here know anything more about the things described in the pages seen below?

I can't remember the exact scenario, but there was a "Sasquatch Conference" held at UBC at some point in the late 70's or earily 80's. Krantz, Byrne, Green, Dahinden, et al, where all in attendance and apparently in rare form.

During the course of the presentations, and much bemused by the backstabbing antics of the various sasquatch hunters, an audience member was heard to comment:

"Forget about the Sasquatch; someone should study these guys!"

lol, I can't tell you how many times that saying has popped into my head over the years.

apparently bf walks like a super-model.
pretty sure a 600 lb beast with massive feet isn't going to leave prints in perfect line.

I recall posting on Melissa Hovey's site long ago a quote from a scientist who observed Bili Ape prints on the ground in the Congo. He said that the Bili Ape demonstrated when in stride that its prints on the ground formed a straight or nearly straight line. I recall speaking with Steenburg on numerous occasions about that discovery and how, if at all, it would apply to the Sasquatch. In a recent search I found that some of the links I used in the past about the Bili Ape are no longer working. If I can find it elsewhere, I will share it here. I will check with Thomas to see if he save it which may be unlikely considering his past experience in computer crashes.

Today I have heard that Peter Byrne has now been sentenced for fraud. It was bad enough that he claimed to find a trackway of 3000 foot tracks and nothing but excuses for not having any proof of it, but it seems his defrauding others was not limited to the Bigfoot field.

I remember talking to Thomas about this a year or so ago
It is a real shame that the numerous hard working and honest researchers toil away in relative obscurity while the hoaxes and charlatans get the newsprint

As always if it bleeds it leads!

After all, an actor kills himself with drugs on the week-end, and the "world" mourns - how many people lost family or friends on the same day to cancer and not a peep is heard ...

I have no problem with those who hold a different view than I, but what I do have a problem with is people who throw out generic opinions without offering any details as to how they came to their conclusion. Even worse, it is usually the same people who post under the same name on various forums who appear to adhere to this basic modus-operandi. If one cannot explain in detail how they reached their conclusion, then they are merely asking others to accept what they say on blind faith. It could very well be that they have another motive for posting what they do which has nothing to do with finding the truth. The purpose of a forum such as this to be used as a learning and/or teaching tool through the sharing of information, which then becomes lost and/or is reduced to little more than a playground for trolls to come so to amuse themselves.

In a recent discussion on a BC Hunting forum, someone posting as 'Duallie' responded to a hunter who believed he had seen a Sasquatch one morning at the break of dawn. Duallie wrote: "I never understand how someone comes to the conclusion that they saw a bigfoot when they see something they don't recognize." Elsewhere he said, "almost any other animal would make sense, but to suggest it was something that isn't even proven to exist is absurd."

The witness who Duallie had referenced had described seeing a tall large upright figure, all one color, standing on a hill and looking right at the hunter. The hunter stood and looked at this figure (estimated to be 7.5' tall and more than 400lbs) for about 15 seconds before losing his nerve and then fleeing for home. Almost any other creature other than a Sasquatch would make sense, Duallie said. I found Duallie's remark to be as weak as a new born baby's hand-shake in this case. I think the hunter would have no problem ruling out it being a squirrel, a rabbit, a raccoon, a coyote, a wolf, a cougar, an owl, an eagle, a deer, a fox, or a bobcat or lynx - so how could justify saying that 'almost any other animal would make more sense' or was Duallie just talking more BS?

Duallie went on to say, " ... and what caused such extreme fear? It's not like you were charged. People aren't going missing or being attacked in the area, why such fear?" Is Duallie kidding me! Steenburg and I came face to face with a large grizzly bear one day while it was squatting down and taking a dump. It saw us and quickly raised up. It was quite intimidating for me. We had nowhere to go and was left standing our ground in hopes the damn bear didn't come charging at us. I can tell you that Thomas and I was very fearful of what that bear might do next, so claiming one should not be fearful of the unknown if its not charging is definitely utter BS in my view. From where the hunter was located to the subject, had it been a large bear, then the hunter would never have made it a quarter of the way back to his house before the bear could have run him down and killed him. To suggest the hunter had nothing to fear was plain asinine in my view.

The next comment Duallie made as if fact must have come from his imagination for people have gone missing in this area. To say otherwise is simply being ignorant of the facts and demonstrates a disregard for caring that what he says is accurate. It might be worth mentioning that not all that far from where the hunter was by way the crow flies, Thomas and I once came upon a shredded backpack, and not 100 - 150 feet away were two shoes as if kicked off while making a mad dash to get away. One shoe was also chewed up and shredded. Nearby we stumbled upon a rib cage that we filmed so to show to the RCMP upon our return to civilization. Also, a few years ago there was the discovery of skeletal remains found in Ruby Creek. A place called Mystery Valley near Harrison Lake, BC has had six to seven people enter it and never to be heard from again. So the facts are that the hunter had every right to lose his nerve and the only alternatives for what he saw was either a large bear standing and facing him, a large man, or a Sasquatch. In the end it was the hunter's sharing of his story that seemed to reflect reality far more than the criticism lacking any detailed rational reasoning that Duallie felt compelled to respond with.
