i have an area that i hike in alot.
i've found broken trees in various spots throughout the area.
there is no way that these have been broken by a human. they are either too large, or have been snapped very cleanly.
another thing that i've noticed, is that it is usually a lone snapped tree. this would rule out snow-load and wind.
and there is no way that a bear or other animal could have done it. a bear would leave scratches on the tree. plus, a bear would not be able to grasp the tree in the needed way to snap it.
and anything else, such as moose antlers or something, would also have to leave scrapes and scratches.
not that i have even thought that a bear or moose could have done it. but i ran all the possible scenarios through my head, trying to come up with a realistic conclusion.
on one walk through this area, as i was about to enter a thickly treed part, the loudest growl/scream came from in the trees, followed by heavy, thudding steps running away.
i know my game, and this wasn't anything that i have ever heard.
there are plenty moose in the area, and i tried my damnest to believe it was a moose. but that was quickly dismissed. this was no moose bellow or grunt.
i can only describe it as what i would expect a gorilla to sound like.
and you can partly judge size by the sound. it was so loud and deep, it just sounded large.
a part that bothers me though, is that i haven't seen anything even close to beingh possible footprints.
actually, this year i saw a large set of tracks on a trail.
i'll look for the picture. they don't resemble a footprint outline, just disturbances on the trail. i had dismissed it immediately as moose tracks.
does anyone have any confirmations on bf actually snapping trees?
