Hi all..signed in here a couple months ago,did a report..but it never got posted somehow.
In keeping with the Stave area, this seems to be a hot spot.
Anyways again....summer 1997 I was up between Stave and Alouette.
Right above the power house and where the road starts getting really rough.
Stopped for a look out over Stave, and the area had been logged off years earlier and was covered by good second growth...maybe 9-10 feet high.
I took a walk down off the road a little...and a broken off tree caught my eye,as I have spent countless hours snowmobiling and dirt biking, it was unusual.
So I walked down, had a look and it was broken basically in half, with the top touching the ground close to the base.Like an inverted V with one arm vertical.Where it was broken ,the tree was maybe 3-4" in diameter.
I was wondering WTH.... how did this happen?
I knew darn well it would be impossible for a person to break that by hand.
No sign of being hit by a snowmobile in deep snow,no axe marks.
Looking at the tree I walked around it and there was a "nest" in there, the only way I can describe it.
Branches at the trunk had been broken off (no axe or knife marks) so it would be smooth, and a few branches had been broken.
The area had branches kind of woven a little, and the area under cover looked nice smoothed down with soft boughs on the bottom.
Looking a couple feet above the break,I could see where branches had been broken off above the break.Sort of like breaking them off to get a better grip maybe?
It smelled kinda bad,and I was still very puzzled.
I've had this from when I was a kid-I know when someone is looking at me,especially in the bush.
Well i got that feeling BIG TIME from the dense forest maybe 80' away and thought I heard a very low noise. The hair on my arms and neck stood up and I got the hell out of there.
Getting back to the truck my friend asked me WTH was wrong?
I told him...he said he'd never seen a tree like that broken off and refused to go look at it
On the way up to the road,I noticed that when they built the road, the grader had plowed over and there was a bunch of overhanging logs and such-so a camper or pot grower would have slept under there.
About a year later I though that maybe I should have looked for hair.
Ideas?
