de Loy's Ape and jacko are two different cases. As far as I know, there was no photo of jacko exist.

There is really no way to prove that the Jacko story was false/true. It happened too long ago and there is far too little information on the whole thing to really pass a verdict, at least in my opinion.

John Green told me once some years ago talking to a very old man whom was a young kid in Yale at the time. The boy did not go to view the creature but he did have some pretty clear memory of the excitement it caused, and how everybody was talking about it. Now it should keep in mind that in those days when newspapers didn't have enough items for an issue it was common practice to make up tabloid like stories to fill space. I myself remember visiting the Yale library, and archives in 1987. They are right there for anybody to see. And I spent two days going over old records and such and not only was there no mention of jacko, but no mention of any kind of Sasquatch at any time period? I thought this was odd and when I mentioned what i was looking for she seem to get in a huff, and just waved me off with, "You need to talk to the Indians about that stuff".

Sometimes, people can hold memories that they swear really happened..but time..suggestion and repetitiveness in hearing a tale, can play serious tricks on a person!

I have a friend "native" that says her grandmother seen a sasquatch. The grandmother is still alive and lives in Liellooet. I'll see if there is a connection. Dave

If she was in yale during the Jacko incident she would be the oldest person still alive on earth, it happened in 1884.

I guess there won't be a connection then. I'm still going to see if I can met this grandmother and get her story. Dave

In John Green's book " On the Track of the Sasquatch" he relates a couple of stories where there is a reference of the capture of a young Sasquatch during the construction of the railroad through the Fraser Canyon in the 1880's.
The story goes on to say that Jacko was at first found sleeping at the eastern end of No. 4 tunnel close to the track. When the brakes of the train were applied, this woke up Jacko who quickly sprang up and took off up the hill. They finally managed to corner the creature where he could neither ascend or descend a projecting shelf of rock. At about forty feet above the creature, the Conductor R. J. Craig threw a rock at Jacko which knocked him out cold. They then tied him up and continued on to Yale where he was kept by his keeper in a machine shop.
Sounds like a plausible story to me, but I wonder how much of it was embellished?

The rumor was that "Jacko" was sent back east by train. Jacko did not die in Yale. Grover Krantz suggested that Jacko was P.T. Barnum's "Jo-Jo The Dog-faced Boy". Anyway, you can read the whole story in Krantz "Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence" page 202-204.
