How come we can't get all of those fancy toys like our neighbors down south! I mean a good pair of 2nd generation goggles without paying $3000 USD
I may be forced into buying a 1st generation monocular from Canadian Tire for $300.
Last night I hooked up a survielance camera which I ordered from Ebay for $60 Canadian. Fits in the palm of your hand...0.0 lux. It was great of you wanted to do the Blair Witch thing..or the Autumn Williams nose hair stance... At about 15 ft I could make out my dog on the monitor with glowing eyes..but not much more. And there was a partial moon. In other words I could see almost as well with my own vision..(without the glowing eyes. But part of me wonders if I could hook this through a camera?

Hello GC, You need an additional IR source. I can show you how to make one (cheap, too). I find the problem isn't on light source, but rather the len of those cameras. They are fitted with wide-angle lens, which means that they can't take far objects clearly or without distortion. I think that I have a similar system as yours. I hook mine up with motion sensors. I also set up my system, so that i can record the image on a camcorder (S-VHS). cheers, seb

G.C.
I have heard that some cheap foren (russian) types can be bad for your eyes so please do not be tempted to go for much of the cheap stuff. While in the U.S. Marine Recon I loved the AN/PVS 7 goggles and the AN/PVS 4 rifle scope had great range and durability, even if your anti kill the scope is great using it in the sitting positions not good to walk with for you have no depth perception the goggle work for that. Good goggles.

You know..I never even thought of that...it would not be a good idea to go wandering around in the dark with a monocular!

Hi GC, If you use a monocular in pitch-black for a while; and when you turn it off, your eyes will go crazy! Because only one eye is exposed to bright green image. But I saw a wildlife show on Nature about rare African cats. Those guys were wearing goggles while driving their land rovers without headlights. cheers, seb

Not sure of the make or manufacturer (I haven't really looked) of my nightvision goggles. I do know they were used in the Yukon by a good friend and ex-prfessional hunting guide while he was riding his atv with no lights at night on a trail from their base camp to their landing strip. They worked fine for my guide friend, and they'll probably work okay for me. We'll put 'em to the test very shortly.

Funniest thing I ever saw...got out an old Harrison Ford video the other day.."Patriot Games" There is a part of the movie which takes place in a house where the power has been cut off. Bad guys running around with night vision and guns in the house killing people. But get this...it is happening in the middle of a thunder and lightening storm! Dumb part was..when the lightening would flash it did not bother these guys with the infra ..even though it lit up the entire interrior of the house.. How ever someone got a generator going in the basement and used it to turn on an overhead light to blind the last bad guy..and over come him!
Only in the movies!!!!

Hi jvd, I have gen 1 moncular. I think that it is good enough. Don't forget sasquatch like to hide behind trees *(most likely), so gen 1 or gen 4 don't make a difference. cheers, seb

:)I think before Sebastian is through with his home made equipment he'll have a device in which he will just push a button and the sun will come back up!

i like the monoculars for the fact one eye atleast retains night vision but of coarse you lose depth perception.
