I have been reading here for a bit and joined up today to relate a story that I hadnt given much thought to recently. I also wasnt really aware what I was hearing but have read similar experiences on here.
I think it was 1994 or 95 and a friend and myself were floattubing and flyfishing in Cheam lake, also known as Cheam wetlands. I think it is a Ducks unlimited sanctuary. There were no fishing signs always posted but it was never in the regulations till the next year. Its kind of maze of marshy areas with high grass that make visibility impossible other than the 100 yard area you are fishing, specially when floating in tubes.
We were on the far side of the lake retying or somethin and we kept hearing some faint muttering or jibberish. There are no waterfront access to this part of the lake to my knowledge so we didnt think that it was campers or such. Ken might have knowledge of the lake. By no means am I stereotyping or being racist about what I say next. It needs to be said for the story to be in context.
We listened for a few seconds more and my buddy says " sounds like some drunken indians!" about 5 seconds later we here a huge splash a few hundred yards away. Its on the other side of the 7 foot tall grass so we cant see anything. I have heard many fish of many sizes splash in the water. They make more of a slapping noise, even large sturgeon, which I have heard and seen jump in the Fraser. This was a very heavy object or rock hitting the water with a deep sounding splash.
We always joked about a sasquatch throwing a rock but I never thought to seriously about it till today when I heard the funny mumbling sounds mentioned in the chehalis topic. I have hiked into the canyon and driven the roads next to Harrison lake many times and never thought about looking for bigfoot prints. Next time I will.
Have there ever been reports from around Cheam lake? Its kinda close to the freeway but also close to the fraser and mountains. Makes me think anyway. We have never been back because it was in the regs that you couldnt fish there anymore. The fishing was unreal, as a sidenote. I should scan some pics. Many cutthroat 20 inches plus.
