Hi, I'm writing about 2 encounters I experienced 40 years apart.
The first one was when I was 17, I lived in a townhouse complex with my parents. Across the street was a golf course and beside this was Burnaby mountain, in the south of British Columbia, near Vancouver. Lots of trails even back then on this mountain. At the top is a restaurant and a university. So one night my friends were at the start of a trail that crosses a small creek and continues on into the forest and up the mountain. I was at my girl friends when they were their at the trail. They said that they could feel a presence in the woods and could hear branches rustling when they were up the trail a bit. They were smoking pot was the reason they were in the trails. When they got out of the trail, because they didn't feel safe, standing at the entrance to this trail, they could hear splashing in the water. They said it sounded like someone was throwing rocks in the creek, bigger and bigger rocks as it got closer. After that they came over to my home, which was a short walk from their. They told me about it, I came home shortly before they came over. I said lets go back and bring some bats with us, which I had at home. We went back with the bats, thinking we could take care of ourselves, right. One of our friends drove his car over and he put his headlights towards the trail. We found a foot print that showed one of them had gone all the way to the end of the trail at the street. We motioned our friend to come closer with his head lights and then as we were looking at it he came to far and ran over it. Then a cop pulled up and started questioning us about us having bats. We told him what happened and how we saw a foot print, but we drove over it. We asked him to shine his flashlight for us, and on the bank of the creek was 2 foot prints, the police officers flashlight enabled us to see it. He lifted the flashlight up stairing into the woods not saying anything for a while. We asked him to go into the woods with us, telling him you have a gun, then he said "if you hear or see anything like this in the future call the police first". He told us to go home. The next day me and one of us got a canoe from a friend and brought it to the creek and tried to go up the creek. The creek was fairly deep and the bushes made it very difficult to move along it. We couldn't go far.
40 years later, I'm at an outdoor pool on the other side of Burnaby mountain. I work for the city that looks after this pool. This is at night maybe 10, 11pm. One side of this pool is a park and homes, the other side is the forest. The fellow that I was working with came into the change room I was cleaning up and said "someone is throwing rocks into the pool". We both were silent thinking about this for a minute and then we hear a very loud piercing scream. I don't think a human being could ever make such a sound. The hair on the back of my neck stood up, we were both just stunned by it. Never have I heard a sound like this before, or since. The movies they show having creatures screaming for effects didn't come close to this. This was my 2nd encounter, 40 years apart. One side of Burnaby Mountain is residential homes etc. another side is forest, that leads down to a road called the Barnet Highway. On the other side of this road is the beach, edge of our inlet, and on the other side of this inlet is the wilderness. I hike on the other side and this leads right into the wilderness and it was the same for the most part 40 years prior.
