Aw, shucks, that sounds so so fun and so inexpensive too! You totally sound like a person to put their trust in on an expedition, Steve. And the location is hot! I've got my FAC current for unlimited weaponry and even have a holster if you have an extra Colt .45 or something, I'm sure it would come in handy to have another person packing...but I have 7 kids to look after this coming week from ages 2 to 16, and will be so busy! Dang it!
Well you guys have a great time out there, I trust you'll be safe and happy, and bring back lots and lots of stories and pictures!

Well thanks Vilnoori, and I most certainly hope we will have fun! I'm crossing my fingers that we'll get lucky enough to stumble across something out there. I still havn't had any luck with a trailcam, but we may have to settle for finding an area (once again, fingers crossed) that will show fresh evidence, and doing some nighttime (with nightvision goggles and night vision camcorder) treking to spot a glimpse of the big guy, or at least so nice wildlife shots in general. Unfortunately since a bunch of my companions have backed out from going, it's just added another reason for me to postpone the trip for at least another week (I was planning on departing as soon as Tuesday, Aug.12th/08). So if there's anyone out there who's interested, and can either take time off work, etc. or help out with the boat part of our transportation, I'd be happy to hear from ya! Oh and Vilnoori, I used to have a beautiful .45 para-ordinance m1911 (variant) but alas, one of my brothers had himself a bit of a drug problem and he "relieved" me off the pistol to fund his habit. He has since gotta his life on track again with the help of family, but I am still out one of the only pistols I actually liked! =-( Wow 7 kids!?! I'm envious, I have a terrific 4 year old son, but depending on whether or not I will be getting married for the second time, hopeful I'll be blessed with a second son and a daughter some day too. Kids are great. Anyways, thanks, and when we do finally depart and in turn, come back, the first thing I'm doing is posting pics, etc. And maybe, just maybe, I'll have an extra special snapshot, say, of our big hairy friend! Steve

Trip moved back to labour day weekend. So there's still time for anyone who wishes to come along. I'll go it alone if I have to but it seems so far there are 3 of us dedicated to the event. Everyone else backed out for various reasons.

Ah, what a shame. Well, it is pretty hot right now, it might be nicer if it cools off a bit--depending on your elevation there, I guess. And at least you can carry legally. I had an armed guard partner with a pair of .45's and they are so lovely to shoot. I liked the .357 magnum he had too, and he also had a .22 handgun that was like a little bee. Shot so quiet and straight! For our work we had .36's that had the hollow point, scored tip bullets that go in one hole and come out in six directions. But they were not nearly as easy to get high scores with and there was quite a bit of variability between weapons. Unfortunately we always got pot luck when we signed in every morning. However I've heard the best handgun to have for big problems is a .44. Or carry a shotgun. So do you think a 30-06 could take down a Sasquatch, as has been proposed (the Georgia Body story)? a gut shot?

I carry a .303 in the woods, I am confident that would do some damage if was nessesary, I have a 30-30 but with a 30-06 or 30-30 the slug is smaller, with less power and velocity behind it than a .303imperial. If one wanted to be sure, go .50bmg. that'll drop him. that georgia story is so rediculous. As for the heat, it's the humidity that kills ya, just hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate though.

I'd really like to tag along to this adventure and wondered if someone would mind to getting a hold of me to let me know what it could bring- I was also curious if anyone was up for doing some camping out near that sighting in July? I don't know if there are any places that we scout out but i'm soooooo in if someone else is. I noticed there saw some concern re: the terrain - ive a little samurai, totally modified for those types of logging roads and bush so please do let me know!! chrissie

I hope someone is packing a high powered/close range/light weight firearm, you can encounter ANYTHING out there! Good luck! Have fun. Wish I could go.

Hey, are you back yet, cymru101? How was it? Pictures? Reports? I'd be surprised if you don't have a story to tell.
