Excellent information on G. blacki in this 2017 paper The last 2 links in my post above are newer and change some of the information presented in this paper, but none the less it is one of the best papers that i have read on G.blacki onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajpa.23150

I haven't spent tens of thousands of dollars and burned thousands of miles of logging roads to play ball with researchers, and especially faker-assed utube posers. I'd like to show some of them a bat alright. I can't say that I've invested a penny. I always think about going halfers on a bag of hydrocal with a buddy "Just in case!" but in all my years in the bush I've never seen anything I'd think of casting. One time hiking up Burke mountain in the early 80's I saw a trackway in the foot deep moss, steep incline and a long stride but I chalk that up to a black bear running down hill. No way you could cast it. I'd consider packing casting materials through the bush a waste of time and money, on the coast anyway.

They've made a lot of discoveries, recently, by studying our DNA and finding ancestors without any fossil record. For example: www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-51508616The new science of environmental DNA might prove things one way or another as well. Basically taking a sample and sequencing all the DNA present. It's not perfect yet but if you find a 'sasquatch nest' and there's no DNA present but bears, raccoons and skunks ....well you might have to change your ideas about things.

Yep, same scene on all the lower mainland backroads. The months long travel restrictions and social gathering limits pushed all the yahoos out to the bush. It seems to be easing a bit now.

I'm sick of the lower mainland. In february a guy cut me off and I hit him, and after fighting with ICBC for 6 months they agreed to fix my truck. Ford has been having trouble sourcing parts so it's been sitting in my driveway with a banged up winch and bumper.
Last week it got stolen! It was recovered about a half mile away after he tried to punch through a chainlink gate at the works yard. Not much more damage. Police held it for a week for forensics.
ICBC is holding it to check for biohazards and drugs, and they say I should get it back in 3 weeks or so.
Anyway, looks like my Chetwynd trip is off this year!
...just venting, I can't wait to retire and move away from this craziness.
Cheers, Moose

You can't seem to catch a break with your truck!!
My Hummer H3 was car jacked when my son borrowed it a few months ago, and I'm not done with ICBC on that claim yet. Makes you wonder why we pay for insurance.

That sucks, I feel for you.
So the latest with my truck, I guess with the new damage they want to write it off AGAIN!
The real kick in the balls was the day after ICBC determined it was a write off AGAIN, ford called me to say they had the parts and to bring it in for repair. The thing is, if it had been repaired already they would fix it.
I haven't signed any papers yet. I need to think on this a while.
It's almost like they want all the trucks off the road and to have us driving electric roller skates.

Yes, he's OK, smart enough to let them take it when they pulled out knives and bear spray. I got it back, slightly damaged and everything gone from the inside, later the same day.

You taught him well then. As much as I commiserate about having my truck stolen, losing a son over something that can be replaced is unimaginable.

So since I can't make it up to Chetwynd after my big truck was stolen I'm just going to head up to my brother's cabin to try and get a deer next week. I expect it will be more of a holiday more than anything with all the fires this year. A deer would be a bonus. I'm going to try to make a point to put out my audio recorder over night to hear what I can hear, but I'm guessing that thing we heard was a one off. Never know though. I'm guessing all I'll hear is farting and snoring though!

Good luck for your deer hunt. I got out for a day last Sat., saw no deer, but passed on a big cinnamon phase black bear since it was 200 yards below me on a very steep slope, and no access to the bottom other than scramble on foot, and I'm to old to try that these days.

Hey Moose have fun! Curious where were you locally where one can hunt? I didn't think there were that many places left around the LowerMainland/Fraser Valley or did you venture out further than that? R
